The Department of Pediatrics is a separate department under the Division of Medicine of Shree Birendra Hospital. This department caters to the health care and welfare of the children of Nepali Army personnel (both serving and retired). From the onset of its origin, the department has been catering to children from newborns to those under the age of 14 years.
The Department has four different parts working in coherence with one another. These include Out Patient Department (OPD), Pediatric Ward, Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU), and Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU). The Department also provides subspecialties like Pediatric Cardiology, Pediatric Gastroenterology, Pediatric Intensive Care, Neonatology, etc. The Department has plans to develop further subspecialties like Pediatric Pulmonology, Pediatric Haemato-oncology, Pediatric Neurology, Pediatric Endocrinology, Pediatric Nephrology, etc.
The Department has been successfully managing various child-related illnesses like respiratory illnesses, infectious diseases, cardiac diseases, gastroenterology related illnesses, kidney-related illnesses, and newborn illnesses and also provides support to various other departments which deal with children like the Department of Surgery, Department of Orthopedics, Department of Dermatology as well as Department of Psychiatry.

Department of Paediatrics provides the following services:

2. | Inpatient services: Those children who have more severe illnesses and require inpatient treatment and monitoring are admitted to the Pediatric ward. | |
3. | NICU: The Department also works in collaboration with the maternity ward and takes care of newborn babies. Those newborn babies who require admission for various newborn-related illnesses are admitted to NICU. | |
4. | PICU: Those children who suffer from life-threatening severe illnesses and require more intensive care are admitted to Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU). | |
5. | The Department also provides immunization services to the children as per the National Immunization Program and also provides optional vaccines to children depending upon their requirements. |
